So Much Feral Knitter News!

Storm Over Taos Vest
My newest pattern, Storm Over Taos, was inspired by an October storm over northern New Mexico (you might recognize this from the swatches shown on pages 32-33 in The Joy of Color). Thanks to test knitter Glenna Eastwood for completing this vest speedily and offering very helpful feedback on the pattern! Yarn packs are available at Feral Knitter.
Teaching
My first trip to the East Coast is coming up soon! Places are still available in my Magic Ball and Fair Isle Tam classes at Stitches United, March 22nd and 24th, in Hartford, Connecticut. The Magic Ball class is an exploration of the use of value to tame wildly incompatible colors; the Fair Isle Tam class is about manipulating 8 colors to make your unique design (and I'll explain how this process translate to designing vests or sweaters).
I'm offering my Design Your Own Fair Isle workshop as part of Camp Stitches in Vermont at the end of May/start of June. Please note that the listed price includes housing and meals.
Shetland Trip 2019
The dream trip to Shetland that Amy Detjen and I planned for August 2018 sold out in 24 hours! We've planned another one for August 19-31, 2019. The itinerary will be as near to the 2018 one that you can find here as we can arrange. Jean at Celtic Journeys is keeping a list of people who want to take the 2019 trip; we'll be going through that list, first come, first served, when the time comes to sign up, so email her right away if you want to join us!
Feral Knitter Yarn Shop Closing
It's been clear to me for a while that my teaching and travel schedule are at odds with my ability to process orders promptly and correctly. After a lot of thought about what I want to do, what I'm best at, and what my long-term goals are I have decided to close the yarn side of Feral Knitter on April 13th.
The last date to order a discounted full set of mini-skeins or full balls is March 16th.
The last date to place regular orders is March 16th—by regular orders I mean that I will restock to fill the order.
Paper patterns will be removed from stock as I run out of them—I have limited stock on hand.
Any orders that include backordered colors will be filled when I receive the yarn, no matter when that is—the mill is running behind on a number of colors right now—good news for them but bad news for us!
After March 16th I will begin to drawn down my inventory, and I won't be restocking to fill orders.
Returns accepted for credit until April 1st.
And the virtual doors will close on April 13th.
I feel a great deal of gratitude to all my customers! You'll still be hearing from me, as I use the newly freed time to design more patterns, develop new classes, and (perhaps) write another book.
Hodge Podge
Test knitter Karen Clerke is the featured International Knitter on the Fruity Knitting podcast #48! Karen shows off her Salmon Coming Home Vest and her Redbud Vest. You can see her at the 45 minute mark, but don't skip over the interview with Susan Crawford, author of the newly released Vintage Shetland Knitwear book (I haven't received my copy yet, but it looks great!).
The newest issue of 60 North, Promote Shetland's magazine, has articles about Shetland Wool Week and the truck system for Fair Isle knitters, along with a selection of photographs from the People Who Touch Wool exhibit.
Did you miss out on the Shetland trip? Block off the first two weeks of November for a fiber-lover's trip with me to magical PERU! Details soon....
